Home Away from Home for TeamNL Athletes
Mission Viejo is becoming a training home for the Netherlands Olympic Committee (TeamNL) as it prepares for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
Dutch track cyclists, the Dutch judo team and TeamNL’s athletics team recently completed high-performance training camps in the city.
The athletes worked out at Saddleback College’s stadium and track, and at Trabuco Hills High School’s strength and conditioning facilities over the course of several weeks.
These were the first official pre-Games visits to Mission Viejo for TeamNL, with more scheduled for 2027 and 2028. The partnership between TeamNL and the city was announced in October 2025.
“Our road to LA28 begins in Mission Viejo,” said André Cats, Director of Elite Sports at NOC*NSF, the Netherlands’ national sports organization. “This is where we hope to write the opening chapter of another remarkable story in Dutch Olympic history.”
World-Class Training Facilities
TeamNL has designated three official local training venues:
Saddleback College — Stadium and track facilities
Trabuco Hills High School — Strength and conditioning facilities
Marguerite Aquatics Complex — Home of the internationally renowned Mission Viejo Nadadores
“Partnering with the City of Mission Viejo to host Team Netherlands is an extraordinary opportunity for our college, our students, and our local community,” said Saddleback College President Dr. Lonita Cordova. “We are honored that our world‑class stadium and track‑and‑field facilities will serve these athletes on their journey to the Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
With more Dutch athletes expected in town over the next two years, Mission Viejo is getting an early taste of what it will be like to host TeamNL during the run-up to LA28.
