A Cosmopolitan Coffee Experience in Mission Viejo

Americano’s Coffee is not your typical Orange County coffee shop. The decor is decidedly cosmopolitan, inspired by establishments you’re more likely to find in New York or other big cities than the suburbs. Dark hues prevail, with red marble floor tile and a dark ceiling creating an intimate atmosphere. Plush red velvet swivel chairs invite you to linger.

The organic coffee and espresso beans are sourced from Cafe Moto, a popular solar-powered roastery in San Diego. Espresso drinks are made exclusively with Italian-made La Marzocco machines.

The beverages are topped with unhomogenized, cream-top milk from Strauss Family Creamery, while the syrups and jams are made from scratch.

Prefer your matcha the traditional way? Americano’s uses ceremonial-grade matcha imported from Japan.

“We really pride ourselves in providing organic, high-quality ingredients and great service, and we wanted a space that reflects that,” says Amanda Nguyen, Americano’s marketing manager (pictured, center, with general manager Vladislav Erakhtin and owner Joshus Leanos).

A Cinnamon Bun Latte to Die For

On a recent visit, I sampled a Cinnamon Bun Latte. Made with high-quality cinnamon and brown sugar, it wasn’t too sweet or lip-burning hot. It was perfection in a cup and I debated whether or not to have a second--or third.

Americano’s stays open until 10 PM, “because there are students and other people who actually like a cup of coffee or matcha after dinner,” Amanda says.

Whether you’re looking for your morning caffeine fix, an afternoon matcha or a late-night coffee, Americano’s is bringing a little big-city sophistication to Mission Viejo.
