New Ramp Improves Access to Sergeant Matt Davis Park
At times, it might seem that our City Council moves at a snail’s pace on community projects. That’s not always the case.
On Saturday, October 31, crews put the finishing touches on an accessibility ramp at Sergeant Matt Davis Park—just about two weeks after District 3 Councilmember Cynthia Vasquez (pictured) requested its construction.
Previously, visitors with limited mobility had to travel roughly a block out of their way to enter the park at 26210 Camino Largo. The new ramp provides easier access to the park’s gardens, sycamores, pines, children’s play areas and spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.
“Even a relatively small change can make a big difference in someone’s life,” says Vasquez. “That’s why having districts in Mission Viejo is so great. You become familiar with the needs in your community and can work toward fast results.”
Sergeant Matt Davis Park honors the Orange County Sheriff’s motorcycle officer who was killed in 2002 when his motorcycle collided with a vehicle that unexpectedly pulled out in front of him.
