A Closet with a Purpose for MVHS Students

MVHS students accept donations for the hygiene closet

Many factors contribute to a student’s success in school.

Though not often discussed—or even considered—access to basic hygiene products can be one of them.

Mission Viejo High School student Dhesiree Manabat has developed a resource to help. Through the Care & Confidence hygiene closet initiative, MVHS students will be able to discreetly pick up essential hygiene supplies, free of charge, from a dedicated space in the school's front office.

“No student should have to focus on hygiene over learning,” says Dhesiree.

How Mission Viejo Residents Can Help

Without reliable access to everyday essentials, students can face challenges with comfort, self-esteem and concentration. MVHS AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) coordinator Kelly McAlister echoed that sentiment, saying she expects many students to benefit from the effort.

The hygiene closet will stock items such as deodorant, sunscreen, tissues, soap, toothbrushes, hair ties, feminine hygiene products and acne patches. Donations will help keep frequently requested supplies stocked throughout the school year.

Care & Confidence isn't meant to be a one-time collection. The goal is a dependable, year-round resource that protects students' dignity and removes one potential barrier to learning.

The initiative will host an on-campus donation drive on October 10—Love Our Schools Day—from noon to 1 PM. Mission Viejo residents can also bring donations to the school office on Fridays during regular school hours.
