After 39 years as the owner of Kwik Kopy Printing in Mission Viejo—and a term as the city's mayor—people might assume Dave Leckness would spend retirement relaxing in a lawn chair, perfecting his golf game or mastering the art of afternoon naps.
They'd be wrong.
Instead, Leckness climbed behind the wheel of his GMC Sierra truck and launched his newest venture: an airport shuttle service.
It all started when friends began calling with a familiar question: "Dave, can you take me to John Wayne Airport?" One ride became two, two became ten, and before long he realized he had unintentionally created a side business.
Unlike app-based drivers who rely on GPS to find South Orange County, Dave actually knows his way around. He has spent decades navigating local streets, attending community events and just generally learning the fastest way to "get there." His passengers can expect help with luggage, stories about Mission Viejo's past, and the kind of personalized service that's becoming increasingly rare.
Most importantly, they get Dave's trademark toothy grin behind the wheel. So while some retirees collect stamps, Dave collects miles going back and forth between Mission Viejo and the airport.
